I am a highly experienced, recently retired secondary school Physics teacher. I obtained my B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Leeds in 1982 and a Ph.D. in Experimental High Energy Particle Physics from the University of Sheffield in 1986. Subsequently I worked for over 20 years as a professional research physicist at various institutes including CERN, The European Organisation for Nuclear Research and in the Solar Physics group at the University of Birmingham. During my years in research, I became increasingly aware of the public under-appreciation and apprehension of science. This prompted me to take the important decision to tackle these problems at the grassroots level and become a secondary school science teacher. Since then, I have spent over 15 years working in leading Swiss and UK schools.

Now working exclusively as a private Physics tutor, I work with pupils up to and including year 13. I am particularly interested in rebuilding the confidence of pupils who have become disillusioned with Physics or who have become convinced that the subject is too difficult for them. I am patient, friendly and always happy to meet pupils at whatever stage they find themselves. I always strive for clear, jargon-free explanations. I am very flexible and will always prepare teaching materials accordingly. I provide written feedback to both pupils and parents on a regular basis.

I was previously a long-term resident of the Geneva area in Switzerland, I am now based in Salisbury UK. In my spare time I enjoy choir singing, playing the piano, swimming, gardening and bell ringing.
